There are a number of ways to recognize the volunteers, leaders and staff that make your walking program a success. Recognition shows walk leaders that their efforts are appreciated and that they are making a difference. Furthermore, recognition enhances motivation and satisfaction, increases productivity, and contributes to improved performance.
Formal Recognition
- Highlight leader, volunteer or staff efforts by writing a story in your local newspaper
- Post a picture and story on a bulletin board ("wall of fame")
Informal Recognition
- Provide continuous, supportive communication
- Say thank you and provide expressions of appreciation for a job well done
- Share positive feedback you have recieved from participants of your walking program
- Provide a small gift, certificate or token of appreciation
- Host a thank you lunch of potluck
- Write a letter of appreciation/recommendation
