Recognition

There are a number of ways to recognize the volunteers, leaders and staff that make your walking program a success. Recognition shows walk leaders that their efforts are appreciated and that they are making a difference. Furthermore, recognition enhances motivation and satisfaction, increases productivity, and contributes to improved performance.

Formal Recognition

  • Highlight leader, volunteer or staff efforts by writing a story in your local newspaper
  • Post a picture and story on a bulletin board ("wall of fame")

Informal Recognition

  • Provide continuous, supportive communication
  • Say thank you and provide expressions of appreciation for a job well done
  • Share positive feedback you have recieved from participants of your walking program
  • Provide a small gift, certificate or token of appreciation
  • Host a thank you lunch of potluck
  • Write a letter of appreciation/recommendation
