Effectively managing staff, volunteers, funding and resources can help you develop and implement successful walking programs. Following the steps below can start you on the right path:

  • Develop a step by step program addressing all of the planning elements from design to delivery
  • Use community grants to help you engage and support communities
  • Comprehensive walking programs require support from multiple groups in order to be successful
  • Measuring success is vital for ongoing motivation from community partners and participants
  • Promotional materials need to be available in more than one language

Once you have developed your walking program there are some key elements to ensure that your program is sustainable:

  • Central coordination and effective leadership
  • Leader guided walks
  • Support your leaders and volunteers
  • Support and energize your participants
