Setting Goals

It is important to set short and long term goals when engaging in a walking program. Help participants in your walking program to develop goals. Ask them to write down goals that are:

  • Specific and concise
  • Measurable
  • Adjustable and modifiable
  • Realistic and appropriate
  • Time based
  • Exciting!

Examples of goals could be:

  • I will go for a walk three times a week for 30 minutes
  • I will go for a walk with my son every week
  • I will think positively about myself when I walk
