It is important to set short and long term goals when engaging in a walking program. Help participants in your walking program to develop goals. Ask them to write down goals that are:
- Specific and concise
- Measurable
- Adjustable and modifiable
- Realistic and appropriate
- Time based
- Exciting!
Examples of goals could be:
- I will go for a walk three times a week for 30 minutes
- I will go for a walk with my son every week
- I will think positively about myself when I walk
