How ‘Walkable’ is Your Neighbourhood?

Check out this great website: Walk Score. It measures how ‘walkable' your neighbourhood is by calculating how easy it is to walk to nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc. Essentially, it measures how simple it is to live ‘car-free.'

It is a great tool for people looking for a new place to live. Living in ‘walkable' neighbourhoods offers many benefits to people's health, the environment, and also creates stronger community businesses.

Good to know that my neighbourhood is not very walkable (actually I already figured that out myself). I get a walk score of 13 (86 percent of users have a higher score than me)
Would be nice to have a "bike score" too, for less dense municipalities/the suburbs/rural areas. It's much easier for me to cover the distance that I have to go by bike. The downtown area is about 3 km from my house, and I have little choice when it comes to the route I take. The problem is it's not always safe, having to share the road with fast moving traffic, and big trucks.
Time for governments at all levels to do much more to make cycling a safe and attractive option to driving, which right now it's not.
Only providing infrastructure for cars and not for vulnerable road users (of all ages and abilities) makes for a very inequitable transportation system.
